FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How would you describe your photography style?
My goal is to keep my photography sessions very natural, capturing the action as it happens. The way I achieve this is with very little posing. In shooting this way, I find that I’m able to bring out the true character of your children, which then makes the session more enjoyable. No need to tell your children to “say cheese!” I find that this tactic often backfires and leads to more resistance from little ones–just show up ready to have fun and leave the rest to me!
But will you still take some traditional posed shots?
Yes, I will spend some time taking some relaxed portraits of you together as a family, as this can be an important record for you too (and I know this is always what Grandma wants!). But I spend more time letting the action happen naturally and capturing the moments as they unfold.
What time do sessions take place?
I plan all my session an hour after sunrise or an hour before sunset, unless you are booking an at-home newborn session (those are best to take place mid-morning). The ideal time is in the evening during what is called “golden hour.” The reason for this is that yummy golden light that you get just before the sun goes down. It allows for the beautiful lighting that is signature to my work! That being said, I am not able honor requests for sessions outside these times.
I know sometimes parents of young children worry about their child being up past bedtimes and worry if they’ll be cooperative, but I find that most are not affected by a one-off late evening.
What happens if it rains?
I’ll get in touch a couple of days before the shoot (after consulting the weather forecast) and if it looks like rain we will work together to reschedule your session for another date. I do like to wait as long as we possibly can to make the call though, as Virginia weather can certainly surprise us sometimes!
Do you edit in color or black & white?
I do a mixture, choosing what I think works best for each individual photo.
How long until I receive my photos?
My turnaround time on galleries is about 3 weeks.
How do I secure my session?
There is a $250 non-refundable session fee due at booking to secure your session, along with signing the client agreement. Please contact me for more detailed pricing information beyond the session fee.
Do you offer extended family sessions?
Yes! That being said, I have limited these to locals only, meaning all individuals involved must be local due complications that can sometimes arise with the possibility of having to reschedule due to weather. There is a $25 fee per additional person beyond your immediate family in addition to your session fee.
How far do you travel?
I travel to most areas in the Northern Virginia area. Because traffic in our area can add lots of travel time to pretty much anywhere you go, there is a travel fee applied to session locations greater than 25 miles (round trip) from the 22025 zip code.
Can you help with styling?
I sure can! I’m a shopper at heart so I love assisting my clients with their outfit choices. I also provide complimentary access to online styling assistance with all of my sessions!
So now that you have all the details, are you ready to book your session?
